Nagarik Oikya for tough action against attacks on minorities

Nagarik Oikya convenor Mahmudur Rahman Manna on Saturday demanded though action by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina against the criminals involved in communal attacks even if they are found affiliated to the ruling party.

A fair investigation into the communal attacks must be done to find out whether the people linked with the ruling class are involved or not, he said.

Mahmudur Rahman said this while addressing a human chain formed by Nagarik Oikya in front of Jatiya Press Club protesting the recent communal attacks on minority communities across the country.

If Jamaat’s registration (with the Election Commission) can be cancelled for the crimes against humanity, the registration of the parties whose affiliation instigated the communal attacks must also be cancelled, he added.

He said, “If Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is willing to get tough, she’ll have to be tough on communal attacks and protect the minority communities.”

The Prime Minister at a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan on Friday said the government ‘will act tough as much as needed’ to curb political violence and attacks on minorities.
