Ruling party MP Golam Maula Rony, detained in a case filed for assaulting television journalists, will have to celebrate the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr in jail as the hearing on his bail petition will be held only when the festival will be over.
Rony, now in Kashimpur Jail in Gazipur, spent time in jail never before.
On July 25, a Dhaka court sent Rony to jail rejecting his bail prayer in the case filed for assaulting two Independent TV journalists — Imtiaz Momin Sony and Mohsin Mukul Bakul.
Rony along with his supporters reportedly assaulted the duo when they went to Rony’s office on the 9th floor of ‘Meherba Plaza’ at Topkhana Road in the city to verify some allegations against the MP.
Dhaka Metropolitan magistrate SM Ashiqur Rahman passed the order when Rony’s lawyer submitted a petition seeking his bail.
Earlier, a team of DB police arrested Rony in the city’s Badda area on Wednesday, hours after the issuance of arrest warrant against him.
Contacted, Rony’s lawyer Kabir Hossain said they will appeal to the court for holding the hearing on Rony’s bail petition before Eid so that his client can celebrate the festival with his family.
