Dhaka, Sept 23 (UNB) – Criticising the Home Minister for his remark that BNP has no ability to wage a decisive movement, BNP standing committee member Moudud Ahmed on Monday said actually Awami League cannot ignore people’s demand for arranging the election under a non-party administration.

“Now BNP doesn’t need to go for a violent movement, as restoration of the caretaker government has become a mass demand. Awami League in no way can ignore the people’s demand,” he told a discussion.

Jatiyatabadi Muktijoddha Dal arranged the programme at the Jatiya Press Club.

Earlier on Sunday, Home Minister Muhiuddin Khan Alamgir said BNP has no capability to carry out a strong street movement.

“BNP has no right to create anarchy in the country in the name of movement. If they try to do that we’ll resist them with an iron hand and the government has such strength,” he said while talking to reporters after a high-level inter-ministerial meeting on law and order at the Secretariat.

Disapproving the minister’s remarks, Moudud said no movement of people had gone in vain in the past, and it will be successful this time, too. “The country’s people will lead the current movement and the government must bow down to it.”

He said though the current parliament session will end on October 24, the tenure of the parliament will remain until January 24 next year. “Wait a bit the government will be forced to amend the constitution convening a session to meet our demand in the face of people’s movement.”

He alleged that the government has created the ongoing crisis through annulling the caretaker government system as it knew that it will face a miserable defeat if the election is held under a non-party administration.

The BNP leader also threatened that they will not allow the current regime to hold the election under a partisan administration keeping parliament in place.

“No party will participate in the election if it’s held under a party government and thus Awami League will be isolated,” he warned.

Chaired by Muktijoddha Dal president Prof Sohrab Hossain, the programme was addressed by, among others, BNP chairperson’s adviser Barrister Shahjahan Omar, BNP joint secretary general Barkatullah Bulu and Dhaka city unit BNP member secretary Abdus Salam.
