Bangladesh will honour another batch of foreign friends with awards on October 1 in recognition of their outstanding role in its Liberation War in 1971.
This will be the seventh phase of awarding of foreign friends and organisations after conferring of ‘Bangladesh Freedom Honour’ posthumously on Indira Gandhi on July 25, 2011.
The foreign ministry has already started work on preparing a list of the friends to be honored on October 1.
The Foreign Ministry is considering over 340 friends this time and the list can be longer or shorter after the final decision, sources at the Foreign Ministry said.
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina are likely to confer the awards on the foreign friends at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city on the day.
