MONSOON CELEBRATIONS IN THE CAPITAL

Chhayanaut, Shilpakala and Sargam hold programmes

Come the monsoon and Dhakaiites are treated to an array of cultural programmes by leading organisations. This year Chhayanaut, Shilpakala Academy and Sargam had plenty up their sleeves.

Chhayanaut’s Sufia Kamal Memorial monsoon programme included an array of songs, dances and recitation. The event began with an esraj recital of Raga Megh Malhar by Asit Biswas. Chhayanaut General Secretary Khairul Anam Shakil welcomed the gathering and spoke about the significance of the monsoon.

Artistes of the organisation danced to a choral Tagore song “Trishnar Shanti Sundar Kanti”, while Jhumur Ahmed and Mostafizur Rahman Turjo rendered solo songs “Megh-er Porey Megh Jomechhe” and “Amar Din Phuralo” respectively.

Noted dancer-choreographer Sharmila Banerjee with her daughter Sudeshna Swayamprabha presented a duet dance piece set on the song “Mon Mor Megh-er Shongi”.

The event also included three group dance performances and a group dance set on a solo baitalik song “Aji Jhorer Raat-e”, rendered by Sutapa Saha.

Noted and promising singers Khairul Anam Shakil, Bizon Chandra Mistry, Priyanka Gope and Mahmudul Hasan performed solo songs composed by Kazi Nazrul Islam and Atul Prasad Sen.

Elocutionists Jayanta Roy and Kazi Madina recited poems. The programme came to an end with a choral performance of Tagore song “Esho Shyamal Sundar”.

Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) organised a Borshamongol programme at its National Music and Dance Centre auditorium on July 29. Artistes of several cultural organisations and troupes such as Rabindra Sangeet Sammilan Parishad, BSA Repertory Music Troupe, Dhaka Sangskritik Dol, Jagannath University presented choral songs while artistes of Dhriti Nartanalay and “Nandan Kala Kendra” performed group dances, choreographed by Warda Rehab and M.R. Wasek respectively.

Noted and promising singers –Yasmin Mushtari, Mohiuzzaman Chowdhury, Fakir Suman, Salma Akbar, Mafizur Rahman, Swati Sarkar, Mahmudul Hasan and Anima Roy rendered solo songs while Bhashwar Bandopadhyay, Krishti Hefaz, Shimul Mustapha recited poems at the event hosted by Dahlia Ahmed.

Sargam cultural troupe organised an event titled “Barshar Gaan” on July 29.

The programme began with three choral songs –“Mon Mor Megher Shongi”, “Rimi Rim Jhim” and “Pagla Hawar Badal Din-e”. Karim Hasan Khan, Ulka Hossain, Swapan Kumar Das, Sheikh Hemayet, Debashish Chakroborty, Dr. Ashutosh Bhakta and others rendered the songs.

The troupe performed various monsoon melodies, composed by Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam, along with several adhunik and semi-classical songs.
