Minister blasts ‘politically bankrupt’ BNP

Environment and Forests Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Tuesday accused top BNP leaders-MK Anwar, Mirza Abbas and Sadeque Hossain Khoka of supervising the violence unleashed by Hefajat-e-Islam activists in the capital’s Paltan area on Sunday.
“BNP central leaders, including MK Anawar, Mirza Abbas and Sadeque Hossain Khoka supervised the violence carried out by Hefajat-e-Islam in the capital’s Paltan area. Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) central general secretary Habibur Rashid Habib and its Dhaka city (south) unit president Ishaq Sarkar, Shibir general secretary Abdul Jabbar……………… led the anarchy unleashed by Hefajat,” he said.
Dr Hasan Mahmud came up with the allegation at a press conference at his secretariat office.
He asserted that those who were involved in such destructive activities and instigated the violence in the city will be brought to justice.
Taking a swipe at the opposition, the minister said “BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, through urging her party leaders and activist to stand by the Hefajat men, proved how politically bankrupt she has become”.
Stating that Khaleda Zia is talking like a mentally-imbalanced person, Dr Hasan Mahmud said “She (Khaleda) needs mental treatment now. She has proved that she is ineligible to do politics.”
He also blamed both BNP and its key-ally Jamaat for patronizing the Hefajat activists in carrying out the alleged widespread violence during and after their Sunday’s rally in the capital.
Awami League health affairs secretary Dr Bodiuzzaman and its deputy office secretary Ashim Kumar were also present.
