Matia slams opposition for enforcing frequent hartals

Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury on Wednesday castigated the main opposition BNP for what she said unleashing violence across the country in the name of hartal.

“They (BNP) are torching people and vehicles on the streets in the name of hartal. They set ablaze vehicles using children, and are killing people,” she said addressing a programme at Public Hall Auditorium in Nalitabari upazila.

Terming the BNP chairperson the ‘queen of destruction’, Awami League presidium member, said, “Khaleda Zia stands in the middle keeping two ‘Jallads’ (slaughterers indicating Jamaat-e-Islami and Hefajat-e-Islam) on her both sides.”

Asserting that the next general election will be held despite destructive activities of the opposition, the Awami League leader said they will accept whatever verdict people will give in the election.

Sherpur police super Mehedul Karim and local AL leader Moksedur Rahman Lebu, among other, addressed the programme presided over by deputy commissioner of Sherpur M Zakir Hossain.
