Mashrafe, Mahmudullah injured

In what has been a disastrous day for Bangladesh cricket today, now Mahmudullah may miss the upcoming India Test after Mashrafe’s accident.

The right-hander received a blow to his index finger during practice at Mirpur stadium today – an injury that is primarily being suspected to be more serious.

ODI team skipper Mashrafe, who’s rickshaw was hit by a bus from the rear on his way to practice, suffered minor injuries – bruises and cuts to his arms and knees. He is not in the Test side though.

“Mahmudullah has fractured his index finger. He may miss the India series,” Dr Debasish Chowdhury, physician of Bangladesh National Cricket Team, told The Daily Star.

He was being taken to the hospital while this report was being filed. With less than a week remaining for the India Test, Bangladesh camp was already considering a replacement, our correspondent said.

On the other hand, national team skipper Mashrafe Mortaza will be abstaining from practice because of his injuries after a bus rammed his rickshaw from the rear in Mirpur.

“The good news is that his (Mashrafe) injuries are not serious. But he will have to rest for now and cannot attend practice sessions,” Baizidul Islam Khan, national side’s physiotherapist told The Daily Star.

Mashrafe is said to have suffered bruises on both his palms and on his right knee. Primary assumptions were that Mashrafe did not fracture any of his bones. However, it was unclear when he will return to play.
