BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia must sever her ties with the Jamaat-e-Islami, if she is keen on a dialogue, an Awami League leader has said.
The ruling party also wants an assurance that her party would not resort to violent and destructive movements in future.
Khaleda Zia appeared before the media for the first time on Wednesday after the Awami League won the Jan 5 election which her party and its allies boycotted.
She said she will tour Bangladesh and continue her party’s campaign to ‘restore democracy’ through anti-government rallies and protests.
She, however, said efforts would also be on for a dialogue.

Awami League publicity secretary Hasan Mahmud, in an immediate reaction, said, “There can be a meaningful discussion only if she announces to abandon the war criminals and violent acts.”
The Awami League leader laid the two preconditions when while speaking to the media at the Awami League’s Dhanmondi office.
He was replying to a query on whether fresh initiatives for a dialogue would be taken, now that Khaleda Zia did not announce new strikes or blockades.
Khaleda was also asked if BNP will leave Jamaat. She adopted an indirect reply saying Jamaat was a political party and Awami League itself had once campaigned with them.
