The 88-year-old has been put under intensive care at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).
His wife Gulbadan Nesa Monica said Matin had been suffering from ailments for a long time.
“He’s been given artificial respiration for the past two days,” she said.
Matin was hospitalised on Aug 18 after he had suffered a stroke. Two days later, BSMMU doctors performed a surgery on his brain to remove a clot.
He has since been kept at the ICU.
The veteran’s condition worsened two days ago.

Monica said her husband’s memory was lapsing.
“He couldn’t remember much before and after the Language Movement,” she said.
Matin lived with his family at Dhaka’s Mohammadpur.
Born on Dec 3, 1926 in Sirajganj, he came to be known as ‘Bhasha Matin’ for his role in the 1952 Language Movement.
He has authored several books on that movement.
