Landslide, wall collapse kills 6 in Ctg

At least six people, including three siblings, were killed and four others injured in separate incidents of landslide and wall collapse, triggered by torrential rains for the last couple of days, in the port city early Sunday.
Pankaj Barua, sub-inspector of Chittagong Medical College Hospital police camp, said three siblings were killed and four others injured in a landslide at Amin Colony under Bayejid thana in the city early Sunday, reports United News of Bangladesh.
The deceased were identified as Arafat Hossain Farid, 12, Umme Salma, 5, and Bibi Mariam, a 16-month-old girl of Mohammad Shahjahan, a resident of the area and hailed from Kashirampur village in Noakhali district.
Fire Service sources said the incident occurred around 1:10 am as a heavy chunk of mud from a hill collapsed on some thatched houses at the foot of a hill, leaving seven people injured.
They were taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where doctors pronounced the three siblings dead, said SI Pankaj.
In another incident, three people, including a minor girl, were killed in a wall collapse at Pora Colony in the city’s Lalkhan Bazar area early Sunday.
Thy deceased were identified as Mariam Begum, 29, wife of Mohammad Sharif, Suraiya Akhter, 22, daughter of Mariam and Akinur, 3.
Local people said the incident took place around 1:05 am when a portion of a boundary wall collapsed on them while they were asleep at their own houses, leaving the three dead on the spot.
On information, firefighters and local people recovered the bodies and sent those to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
Chittagong deputy commissioner Mezbah Uddin visited the spot in the morning asked Mohammad Ilias Hossain, additional deputy commissioner (revenue), to form a probe body to investigate the incidents.
Meanwhile, the local administration provided Tk 20,000 to each family of the deceased.
