Khoka, Hannan on 2-day remand

A Dhaka court today granted two-day remand to BNP senior leaders Sadeque Hossain Khoka and Brig (retd) ASM Hannan Shah in a case filed for killing a sub-inspector (SI) during Hefajat mayhem in the capital.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mostafizur Rahman granted the remand rejecting their bail pleas.

The court passed the order acting on the appeal of investigation officer of the case who prayed for a 7-day remand for the BNP leaders.

According to the case statement, SI M Shahjahan of Motijheel Police Station was killed during a clash between the activists of Hefajat-e-Islam and the law enforcers in the capital’s Shapla Chattar on May 5.

Police filed three cases in connection with the violence – one relating to the murder of the SI and the two others for vandalism and arson attack with the police station.

Khoka vice-chairman of the BNP, and Hannan, the party’s standing committee member, were later shown arrested in all the three cases.

Meanwhile, in the vandalism and arson cases, the same court today sent the two BNP leaders to jail after rejecting their bail prayers.

The court also ordered police to quiz both the leaders in the cases at the jail gate within 10 working days as the investigation officers’ of the cases appealed before the court for placing them on 10-day remand each in the two cases.
