Khaleda trial to be held at makeshift court in Keraniganj jail

KhaledaThe government has decided to hold the trial of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia in 17 cases inside the Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj after setting up a makeshift court there, reports UNB.

The law ministry issued separate gazette notifications in this regard on Monday.

The newly constructed building-2 of the central jail was declared as the makeshift court under sub-section 2 of section 9 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, the notifications said.

On 8 February, 2018, a special court sentenced Khaleda to five years’ rigorous imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.

The 73-year-old former prime minister has been staying at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University for treatment since 1 April last.
