The physicians on Thursday took off the life support system of Sylhet college student Khadija Begum Nargis, who was hacked by a BCL activist and now undergoing treatment in a city hospital, as his health condition has improved further.

The hospital authorities said Khadija’s condition is now doing better.

After visiting Khadija on Thursday evening, health and family welfare minister Mohammad Nasim told newsmen that she is improving bit by bit and does not need to be taken abroad for treatment.

“I have talked to physicians. They told me that she does not need to be taken abroad [for improved treatment]. Even if she requires that, the government will bear the expense,” said the health minister.

Khadija, a second year Degree student of Sylhet Government Women’s College, was indiscriminately hacked by Bangladesh Chhatra League’s (BCL) Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) unit assistant secretary Badrul Alam on 3 October.

Hearing the victim’s screams, locals rescued Khadija and caught Badrul from the spot and handed him over to the police.
Khadija is now fighting for her life at the Square Hospitals Ltd in the capital.
