Kamal, Sultana, Akbar to meet President

The three-member delegation led by Dr Kamal Hossain will meet the President Tuesday evening. Akbar Ali Khan and Sultana Kamal are two other members of the delegation.

The meeting with the President Abdul Hamid will be held at Bangabhaban in the evening against the backdrop of a 48-hour countrywide blockade enforced by the BNP-led Opposition to protest against announcement of election schedule.

A civil-society delegation led by Dr Kamal Hossain would meet the President at Bangabhaban at 6:30am, said Mahmudul Hasan, Assistant Press Secretary to the President, speaking to bdnews24.com.

“Dr Kamal Hossain will brief about the meeting,” said Sultana Kamal, speaking to bdnews24.com.

“I don’t want to say anything to the Press right now. (I) will say (to the Press) after the meeting, said Kamal Hossain, speaking to bdnews24.com, when asked about the agenda of their meeting.

Former Secretary Akbar Ali, however, opened up and said, “We will make just one appeal to the Honourable President. That is he should take initiative to resolve the ongoing political crisis in the country.”

“We will appeal to the President to ensure that the normalcy is restored through an acceptable election with the participation of all.”

The BNP-led 18-Party alliance is on the streets demanding installation of a caretaker government to supervise the next polls.

The ruling Awami League, on the other hand, is steadfast on its stand that next parliamentary election will be held under the supervision of an ‘all-party’ government.

The Election Commission on Monday announced the election schedule. Rejecting the schedule, BNP-led 18-Party alliance had called a 48-hour countrywide blockade starting from 6am on Tuesday.

Five persons have so far been killed in clashes during the blockade.
