Joy rips into BNP

“The country cannot afford to have another five years of Hawa Bhaban,” Joy wrote on his Facebook wall on Thursday.

The US expatriate apparently responded after several BNP leaders described as ‘government drama’ the return of the money siphoned off by Arafat Rahman Coco, the younger son of Khaleda.

Coco is convicted in a case over laundering money to other countries. His elder brother Tarique Rahman is also facing similar charges.

The BNP, however, alleged the cases against the two aimed only at harassing the ‘Zia family.’

Over the issue, Joy said, “It was not the Government of Bangladesh that returned the money. It was a foreign Government, the Government of Singapore.”

“The US FBI testified against (Coco). The FBI has also testified against (Coco)’s brother (Tarique) in another case. This is shameful for us as a nation.”

“How does it look when foreign Governments file cases against the former Prime Minister’s family?”

The BNP has spoken of Tarique as its future leader.

Over the issue, he asked, “Is this truly the future leadership of the BNP? Does the BNP not have any good people who can lead their party?”
