Such organisations are in the way of Bangladesh’s progress, says premier’s son

Big international donor organisations are in the way of the technological progress of Bangladesh, prime minister’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy has said.

The premier’s son pulled up on the World Bank for its intervention and monitoring in the country. “We take loans from them, we do not beg,” he said.

“The process of introducing technology throughout is being delayed because of the intervention and monitoring of the organisations like the World Bank.”

Joy was speaking as a chief guest at a e-filling programme of the Ministry of Post, Telecommunication and Information Technology in the capital on Tuesday.

Bangladesh has had a significant unsuccessful endeavour with the Washington-based World Bank in the much-hyped project of bridging the Padma River.

Joy, also the prime minister’s technology adviser, was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the E-filling project of the ICT division under the ministry.

Post, Telecommunication and Information Technology Minister Abdul Latif Siddique said Joy’s suggestions were vital for “Digital Bangladesh.”

The government wants to bring transparency and efficiency to the public service, that ministry officials say will be helped by the e-filling.

This will also reduce the use of paperwork, thereby create environment friendly offices. The system will be introduced in all ministries within a short time.
