Zakaria and Rasel on 20-day remand
Zakaria, who was arrested for his alleged involvement with the snatching of three JMB militants, has named the mastermind behind the attack, claimed police.
Khandaker Golam Farukh, additional deputy inspector general of police, said: “Zakaria, who was held for his involvement with the attack, has named the mastermind behind the snatching in primary interrogation.”
Quoting Zakaria, he said: “They were taking preparation for last seven days to launch such daring attack. Some 12 to 15 people have taken part in the attack.”
Police have collected important information in this regard and would arrest all the ‘criminals’ behind the snatching, he added.
Meanwhile, the Tangail court has placed Zakaria and Rasel on a 20-day remand in two cases.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Sonya Begum passed the order as the investigation officers of the cases produced them before her court with a 20-day remand plea.
The two cases were filed under arms and explosive act with Sakhipur police station.
Earlier on Sunday, miscreants snatched three condemned JMB militants while they were being taken to Mymensingh from Kashimpur jail, Gazipur, after hurling bombs at the police van. A police constable died in the incident.
Later, police recaptured one militant Rakib, who has been killed in ‘crossfire’ early Monday, hours after he was held.
However, two remaining militants Salauddin Salehin and bomb specialist Mizan are still on the run nearly 24 hours after the attack.
Police also held Zakaria and Rasel for their alleged involvement with the attack.
The incident took place weeks after the issue of militancy surfaced anew in Bangladesh with the clip of ‘al-Qaeda’ calling Muslims to wage Jihad against anti-Islamist forces.
