Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad in his immediate reaction to the High Court verdict declaring the registration of Jamaat-e-Islami as a political party illegal has said the Election Commission will act after receiving the copy of the judgment.
He however said none can take part in election under the banner of Jamaat after the execution of the HC verdict.
“After the execution of the verdict, any body of the party (Jamaat) could be able to take part in election individually. Nobody could take part in the election from party platform,” he said while replying questions from journalists.
The EC will take necessary legal steps and decide on the present parliament members elected on Jamaat tickets after receiving the copy, the CEC said.
According to law, parties without registration with the commission cannot take part in election, he told the reporters at his office premises.
