Jail Killing Day to be observed Sunday

Jail-Killing

The nation will observe the Jail Killing Day on Sunday with due solemnity commemorating the 1975 killing of four national leaders inside Dhaka Central Jail.

On November 3 in 1975, the four national leaders and heroes of country’s Liberation War – Syed Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmed, Captain Mansur Ali and AHM Quamruzzaman- were assassinated inside the Dhaka Central Jail.

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages marking the day.

In his message, the President said “The aim of the killers was to erase the idol of Liberation War from the spirit of the young generation apart from the rise of undemocratic autocratic rule.”

In her message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said “The killing of four national leaders was the continuation of the killing of father of the nation with his family. Through it the conspirators carried an evil effort to destroy the spirit of Liberation War by erasing the name of Awami League.”

Awami League, its associate bodies and other political  parties chalked out elaborate programme to mark the day. The programme includes hoisting of national flag half-mast and party flags, placing wreaths at the portrait of the Bangabandhu, offering fateha at the Banani graveyard and holding public rally at Suhrawardy Udyan at 2 pm. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will address the rally as chief guest.

Awami League general secretary and LGRD Minister Syed Ashraful Islam in a statement on Saturday urged all to observe the day with due solemnity.
