Islamist terrorist outfit Islamic State claimed responsibility for the killing of a Hindu monastery abbot at Debiganj upazila in Panchagarh, US-based SITE Intelligence Group claimed on Sunday.
The victim Jajneshwar Roy, 50, abbot of Santagauriya Math, at Debiganj, was killed and his assistant Gopal Chandra Roy sustained bullet injuries in a attack on the temple on Sunday morning.
SITE Intelligence Group, a for-profit Maryland-based company that tracks online activity of jihadi organisations, had earlier claimed that IS claimed the responsibility for a number of incidents in Bangladesh including the murders of two foreign nationals in Bangladesh – Italian national Cesare Tavella and Japanese national Kunio Hoshi – and bomb attack on Hossaini Dalan in Dhaka.
All of the claims were, however, rejected by the government.
