The headmaster of a school in Narayanganj who was beaten by a mob and humiliated publicly by Awami League lawmaker AKM Selim Osman on May 13, has now been suspended by the school committee.
Shyamal Kanti Bhakta, headmaster of Piyar Sattar Latif High School in Bandar upazila of Narayanganj, was handed the suspension order on Tuesday morning.
A suspension letter, signed by the school’s management committee president Farukul Islam was served to Shyamal Kanti to let him know that he has relieved from his duties.
Regarding the suspension, Shyamal Kanti said that the school’s management committee had been trying to remove him for the past few months in order to replace him with Parveen Akhter, sister of the committee’s President Faruqul Islam.
A three-member committee that was formed to probe the incident also said the initial investigation had found conspiracy behind the incident.
They also said that they received information about a conflict between Shyamal and the management committee.
On May 13, Shayamal Kanti, a veteran teacher of the school, was beaten up and made to do sit-ups holding his ears by the orders of local Awami League lawmaker AKM Selim Osman MP on allegations that he had demeaned religion.
