Home, IGP directed to act against RU troublemakers: PM

Voicing her strong stance against any terrorist activities in educational institutions, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday said she has already directed the Home Ministry and the IGP to take action against those involved in the recent incident on the Rajshahi University (RU) campus.

“All attackers don’t belong to BCL. Those belong to BCL have already been expelled,” she said while replying to opposition chief whip Tajul Islam’s remark about BCL’s involvement in recent RU campus skirmish.

Taking floor on a point of order, Tajul pointed finger at the ruling party-backed student wing – BCL – cadres for attacks on general students at the RU who had been agitating for the last couple of days to realise their various demands.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the government never nourished any sort of injustice, and there would be no deviation from its stance this time too.

In this connection, she mentioned the killing of Biswhajit and its subsequent trial.

Describing Sunday’s incident, she said the RU authorities accepted the demands of the students and for that BCL activists went there with a procession celebrating the acceptance of their demands.

Hasina mentioned that there had been an attack on the procession and BCL leaders and activists protested and resisted the attacks. “We’ll further investigate the matter to know who are really responsible for the attacks.”

Criticising the left-leaning parties, Hasina said when they go for a movement they hardly check it out who are actually with them.

Indicating Shibir’s involvement in the attack, she advised the left-leaning parties to remain more careful in the future. “We won’t tolerate Shibir’s attempt to take control over the university campus and carry out terrorist activities there.”

The Prime Minister came down heavily on human rights activists saying they do not raise their voice when the Shibir men kill BCL activists and sever their tendons. “I can’t understand why the human rights groups keep mum at that time.”

She said the government will take stern action against terrorists, no matter which party they belong to.

The Prime Minister also said everybody has the right to protect himself or herself.
