Heads of states, int’l agencies want Sheikh Hasina in power again
She made the statement at a Ganabhaban media briefing
Various international agencies and heads of states have expressed hope that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will continue her legacy of development and democracy by coming to power again.
Hasina, addressing a press conference at Ganabhaban on Wednesday, said no state or government has suggested anything about the next general election in Bangladesh, but they wanted to see her again in power.
“Whoever I have spoken to, they have encouraged me to be in power and have hoped that I will come back again,” she said.
“From presidents, to the secretary general, to all heads of states and governments have expected that they will see me again in power after the election,” Hasina added.
‘Global community putting pressure on Myanmar’
She said the global community is putting pressure on Myanmar to take back the Rohingyas.
“Everyone is worried about the issue. All the countries are putting pressure on Myanmar to take back the Rohingyas,” Hasina added.
More than 700,000 Rohingyas fled to Bangladesh from their homeland in Rakhine state since late August last year, after Myanmar security forces launched a brutal crackdown targeting the mainly-Muslim ethnic minority.
The Rohingyas joined more than 400,000 members of their community who had escaped to Bangladesh in previous years. Bangladesh and Myanmar have signed a repatriation deal to send back the refugees to Myanmar.
