BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy on Wednesday said the Prime Minister’s phone call to the Opposition Leader was nothing but a drama to mislead people.
“The government has no sincerity for dialogue. The Prime Minister’s phone call to the opposition leader was a drama as her main intention was to confuse people by having the hartal withdrawn by the opposition leader,” he said.
The BNP policymaker made the allegation at a discussion on caretaker government arranged by Ziaur Rahman Foundation at the Jatiya Press Club.
Gayeshwar said the Prime Minister’s drama what she staged over the dialogue with the Opposition Leader has outshined the performance of famous actresses of Bangladesh and India.
He said the Prime Minister cheated the country’s people by staging the drama over the dialogue. “She talked over phone in a slow and low voice and tried to make the opposition leader angry. They played ABC (Avoid, By-pass and Confusion) with people and the opposition.”
Gayeshwar also criticised the Indian newspaper Ananda Bazar Patrika for what he said publishing a motivated news item about BNP senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman only to belittle him.
He alleged that the government provided the newspaper with information about Tarique as it favours the blessings of the neighboring country instead of public support to cling to power.
The BNP leader urged the India to try to be the friend of people of Bangladesh and a good neighbour instead of maintaining good relation with only a specific party.
Turning to the election issue, Gayeshwar said the government had scrapped the caretaker government system as it knew it would not be able to return to power through a fair election overseen by non-party administration. “You (PM) have amended the constitution in your own interest, please you now amend it again for the sake of people.”
Describing the Election Commission as the government’s puppet, he said it is not possible to hold a fair election under the current commission which counts on the government for taking any decision. “We won’t take part in the polls under this commission.”
