Hartal in 9 dists Monday

BNP and the opposition on Sunday called separate daylong hartals in Khulna, Jhenidah, Barisal, Rangpur, Feni and Comilla districts while half-day ones in Munshiganj, Bagerhat and Brahmanbaria for Monday.

 

In Khulna, district unit Swechchhashebak Dal will enforce a daylong hartal in the district on Monday, demanding the withdrawal of ‘false’ cases filed against its central president Habib-un-Nabi Sohel and the immediate release of other leaders.

 

City unit joint convener Jamal Hossain Talukdar and district unit joint convener Mohammad Taibur Rahman announced the shutdown.

 

In Jhenidah, the 18-party alliance called the dawn-to-dusk hartal demanding withdrawal of ‘false’ cases filed against its leaders and protesting the attack on their peaceful procession.

 

In Rangpur, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal will enforce the daylong hartal demanding the release of its central president Abdul Kader Juwel Bhuiyan, secretary Habibur Rashid Habib and other central and local leaders and activists.

 

Central JCD vice-president Mafuz–un–Nabi Don, announced the shutdown from a rally held at Paira Chattar in the city on Sunday.

 

In Barisal, the district unit BNP and JCD called the daylong hartal protesting the cancellation of bail of district BNP secretary Abul Kalam Shahin and sending him to jail after he surrendered before the court on Sunday.

 

On the other hand, Masud Hasan Mamun, district JCD president and Abul Hasan Limon, city JCD convener, said they called the shutdown in the district and city Monday protesting the arrest Juwel and Habib.

 

In Comilla, the district unit JCD will enforce the dawn-to-dusk shutdown in seven upazilas of the district demanding the release of its central president and general secretary.

 

In another incident, the district unit Swechchhasebak Dal called a daylong hartal for Wednesday demanding the release of its leaders.

 

In Feni, district unit Jubo Dal called the hartal demanding the withdrawal of ‘false’ cases filed against its party leaders.

 

District unit Jubo Dal president announced the hartal on Sunday.

 

In Munshiganj, district unit BNP will enforce the half-day shutdown protesting the arrest of three Jubo Dal leaders and sending its 42 leaders to jail.

 

A court here on Sunday rejected bail petitions of the 42 leaders in a case filed in connection with a clash with police during hartal hours on November 5.

 

Besides, police arrested three Jubo Dal leaders from city’s Wari area on Sunday.

 

In Bagerhat, the BNP-led opposition combine called the hartal protesting the arrest of BNP leaders and demanding the release of its detained leaders.

 

The announcement came from an 18-party rally on Sunday.

 

In Brahmanbaria, local unit BNP called the half-day hartal demanding the cancellation of the next election schedule and the release of BNP leaders.

 

Meanwhile, JCD enforced a 24-hour hartal beginning at 6pm on Sunday in Manikganj district protesting the arrest of party leaders and exclusion of the name of BNP Senior Vice-chairman Tarique Rahman from the voter list.

 

Mohammad Shahin Hossain, vice-president of district unit JCD, announced the hartal at a press briefing on Sunday.

 

The hartal will remain in force until 6pm Monday.
