Senior BNP leader Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain on Saturday alleged that the government is screaming louder as it has got devoid of essence and afraid of public wraths.
“This regime is not elected by people’s votes. Its ministers are speaking boastfully sensing public wraths as frightened people sing loudly near graveyards and cremation places at nigh,” he said.
Mosharraf, also a standing committee member of the party, came up with the remarks at a discussion at the Jatiya Press Club arranged by Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal, marking the 78th birth anniversary of BNP founder late president Ziaur Rahman.
The BNP leader said assuming power without people’s mandate through a ‘farcical’ election, the government is trying to cling to it by using force. “This government won’t quit unless it’s ousted through a vigorous movement.”
He called upon the country’s people to get united for waging a strong movement for restoring democracy and their voting right.
The former health minister was also critical of ‘Pitha Utsab’ (cake festival) at the Prime Minister’s official residence Ganobhaban. “The Prime Minister is now in an upbeat mood. She is arranging Pitha Utsab at Ganobhaban sitting on the blood of huge democracy-loving people killed in the last one month.”
He alleged that Awami League has killed democracy by holding the January 5 elections like what they had done in 1975 through establishing a one-party rule, ‘Baksal’.
Terming bizarre the current government and parliament, Mosharraf said there is no opposition party now in parliament. “The government is calling Jatiya Party as the opposition. But its chairman HM Ershad has been made a special envoy to the Prime Ministers and its leaders have been inducted in the cabinet. The existence of such weird government and parliament is unprecedented in the world.”
