With the steps, jobs of over 1 lakh teachers will be regularised
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday declared the nationalisation of 26,193 non-government primary schools of the country.
With the initiative, jobs of 1,03,845 teachers will be nationalised in three phases and they will get the same salaries and benefits as those in government primary schools, primary and mass education ministry sources said earlier.
The much-awaited nationalisation declaration of the school came at a grand rally of teachers at the capital’s National Parade Square.
In 1973, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman first nationalised 36,165 primary schools and 1,55,023 teachers got the benefit. Later, 1,507 more schools were nationalised at different times.
The government has nationalising 22,981 registered schools added to the MPO list, 388 permanently and 361 temporarily registered schools, 720 with teaching permission, 653 non-MPO community and 130 NGO-run schools, 151 schools recommended for teaching permission and 809 waiting for the recommendation.
Some 91,024 teachers of 22,981 MPO schools will get the facility, effective from January 1 this year. This will cost the government an extra Tk 100 crore in the 2012-13 fiscal.
In the second phase, the jobs of 9,025 teachers of 2,252 schools that are permanently or temporarily registered, have teaching permissions and run by community or NGO will be regularised from July 1 and for this an additional Tk 371 crore will be needed in the next fiscal year.
Jobs of 3,796 teachers of 960 schools recommended for teaching permission or waiting to get the same will be regularised in third phase from January 1 next year. The government will have to bear an additional Tk 651 crore in expenditure in 2014-15 fiscal year.
