BNP Standing Committee Member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain on Saturday alleged that the government wants to create instability in the country by misguiding people in the name of Sharia law.
In the name of Sharia and good governance, the government wants to mislead people and create a political anarchy in the country, he said.
He made the remark at a sit-in arranged by Swadhinata Forum, a pro-BNP platform, in front of the National Press Club in the city demanding the return of disappeared BNP leader M Elias Ali.
Addressing a meeting with AL central working committee at Gono Bhaban on Friday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said those attacking law enforcers and trying to hinder the war crimes trial could be tried under Sharia law.
Mosharraf, also a former minister, said Awami League always tries to take credit by claiming itself as a secular party both at home and abroad.
In the name of upholding secularism, it tries to misguide the country people, he said.
On the PMs remark on commodity prices, Mosharraf said, The government has totally failed to have its control over the market and theyre now lying to hide their failures.
Sensing its sure defeat in the next general election, Mosharraf alleged that the ruling party wants to push the country towards uncertainty by creating anarchy in a planned way.
Hasina and her government must shoulder the responsibility, he added.
He said the government wants to arrange the polls under a party government as it has lost its confidence. But the people of the country will not allow her plan to be implemented.
Mosharraf urged the government to place a caretaker government bill in Parliament and restore the caretaker system instead of pushing the country towards uncertainty.
The programme was addressed, among others, by opposition chief whip Zainul Abdin Farooque, Jubo Dal President Syed Moazzem Hossain Chowdhury Alal.
Forum President Abu Naser Mohammad Rahmatullah presided over the meeting.
