The government is following a dual policy on war crimes trial, alleged the BNP Friday blaming the government for the recent controversy arising over the war crimes trial.
“Now the government itself has landed in the trap it had laid,” said Standing Committee member Moudud Ahmed.
“The government itself formed laws for war crimes and crimes against humanity and the tribunal … But now their dual policy has been exposed before the masses,” he said.
The BNP leader, speaking at a meeting at the Press Club Conference Lounge, urged the government to stay away from its ‘dual policy’.
The meeting, arranged by the Swadesh Jagaran, came up with a slogan – Bangladeshi people will not take responsibility for corruption in Padma bridge.
He took a dig at the government alleging its ‘faith’ was going shaky. “If one is not firm in one’s faith, it shows at the end of the day.”
“Several ministers can’t go to Shahbagh at the moment. One or two are going … their followers are there…,” he said.
Mass people, mostly youths, have gathered at the Shahbagh intersection to protest since Tuesday afternoon, hours after the International Crimes Tribunal-2 pronounced life in jail for Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General Abdul Quader Molla.
Initially, the emotional uprising demanded death sentence for Quader Molla, but later it switched to demanding execution of all war criminals.
People from a broad spectrum of society joined the gathering that went through Wednesday and Thursday only to be followed the day after.
Protests soon spread to several parts of Bangladesh.
