GM Quader new chairman of Jatiya Party
The party made the decision as its founding chairman Hussain Muhammad Ershad, also elder brother of GM Quader, died at the Combined Medical Hospital, Dhaka on 14 July.
After the announcement made from the party chairman’s office in city’s Banani, GM Quader said, “There’s no conflict in the Jatiya Party. The party is united.”
The party said GM Quader was made chairman unanimously.
The new chairman of JaPa also thanked Awami League president and prime minister Sheikh Hasina for inquiring about the health of Ershad at the hospital.
He also thanked the physicians of CMH and the people of various walks of life for their condolences to the bereaved family members.
Also former president of Bangladesh, the military ruler Ershad made his younger brother GM Quader party’s acting chairman on 4 May.
A number of senior leaders of the party were not so happy with the decision. They, however, did not enter into any conflict over the matter then.
Responding to questions about the next leader of the opposition in parliament, GM Quader said, the decision would be taken by the party’s parliamentary committee.
