The BBS data showed that food inflation increased to 8.39 per cent in April, 2026 from 8.24 per cent in the previous month, while non-food inflation slightly increased to 9.57 per cent in April, 2026 from 9.09 per cent in the previous month.
Both rural and urban areas of the country saw modest uptrend in overall inflation.
In rural areas, the general point-to-point inflation stood at 9.05 per cent in April, 2026 up from 8.72 per cent in March 2026.
Rural food inflation increased to 8.23 per cent in April, 2026 from 8.02 per cent in March while non-food inflation increased to 9.81 per cent in April, 2026 up from 9.38 per cent in March.
In urban areas, general inflation also increased to 9.02 per cent in April, 2026 up from 8.68 per cent in March.
Urban food inflation also increased slightly to 8.81 per cent in April, 2026 from 8.78 per cent in March, whereas non-food inflation increased to 9.15 per cent in April, 2026 up from 8.62 per cent in March.
