The minister for foreign affairs, AH Mahmood Ali, on Tuesday strongly condemned Bangladesh Nationalist party chairperson’s remark and media’s ‘distortion’ of his quote regarding the meeting between Khaleda Zia and Indian prime minister Narendra Modi.
‘I condemn her (Khaleda’s) irresponsible remarks,’ he said in a statement in parliament referring to Khaleda’s recent interview with the Indian daily Sunday Guardian.
The foreign ministry distributed a copy of the statement, reports United News of Bangladesh.
The BNP chief alleged that the government tried its best to thwart her meeting with Indian prime minister Narendra Modi who recently visited Bangladesh, the Indian daily reported on Saturday.
‘She (Khaleda) alleged that I ruled out her meeting with Indian prime minister Narendra Modi,’ the foreign minister said adding that Khaleda has always been a follower of Goebbels’ lying strategy.
Mahmood Ali said a ‘pro-BNP’ journalist at a press conference on June 5 wanted to know whether there would be any meeting with Khaleda during Modi’s visit. ‘In response, I told him, I don’t think there is any scope to discuss the question here.’
He said his remark was fully distorted and published in the newspaper the following day.
In the last part of the statement, the foreign minister said, ‘Oh Begum Zia, Oh BNP! How long you will continue lying. Shame! Shame!’
