National award winning filmmaker and artist Khalid Mahmud Mithu has died when a tree fell on him in Dhanmondi area of Dhaka.
Quoting family sources, Bangla Tribune, a sister concern of Dhaka Tribune, reported that Khalid was going to outside from his Dhanmondi residence by a rickshaw on Monday afternoon. All on a sudden, a tree fell on him, leaving him injured.
Later, he was rushed to nearby Gonoshasthya Hospital where the duty-doctor declared him dead.
Born in 1960 in Dhaka, Khalid completed his Master of Fine Arts (MFA) from Institute of Fine Arts of Dhaka University.
Khalid directed his first film ‘Gahine Shobdo’ for which he won Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Director in 2010.
He also won ‘Arab Bangladesh Bank Award’ in 2007 in the 16th National Art Exhibition organised by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
Film “Jonaki’r Alo”, directed by Khalid, was also gained popularity for him.
His wife Kanak Chanpa Chakma is also a noted artist who has won many national and international awards.
