Fakhrul says govt out to continue ‘one-party rule’
In a statement, he also said the government has been harassing the leaders of BNP and other opposition parties at all levels, including senior ones, by implicating them in ‘false, baseless and fabricated and politically motivated’ cases.
The BNP leader observed: “Arrangements have been made to eliminate the nationalist forces. A plot to destroy the BNP leaders is going on as the government wants to enjoy absolute power for a long time by establishing a one-party monopoly.”
The statement was issued voicing concern over the High Court order that upheld a lower court verdict sentencing BNP vice chairman Mir Mohammad Nasiruddin to 13 years and his son Mir Mohammad Helaluddin to three years in a corruption case.
Fakhrul said Mir Nasir and Mir Helal were punished in the ‘false and fabricated’ graft case following a ‘conspiracy’ by the government.
He alleged that the government is pushing the country towards dangerous anarchy with its desperate attitude to oppress and suppress the opposition leaders.
The BNP leader demanded the government immediately revoke the convictions of Nasir and Helal and withdraw the ‘false’ case filed against them.
