Fakhrul, Moudud, 6 others sent to jail

The March 2 photo shows two vehicles allegedly vandalised by activists of BNP and its allies at Shantinagar in the capital.

Three separate courts in Dhaka on Sunday sent eight BNP top leaders including Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Moudud Ahmed to jail after their surrender in connection with eight cases filed for March 2 and 6 violence in the capital.

The other accused are: Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, Mirza Abbas, Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie, Abdullah Al Noman, Moazzem Hossain Alal and Barkatullah Bulu.

The BNP leaders were accused in eight cases filed for vandalising and torching vehicles, assaulting police and preventing them from discharging duties.

Of the cases, two were filed with Paltan Police Station, two in Raman Police Station while one in Shahjahanpur.

Judges of three Dhaka courts ordered to send the BNP leaders to jail rejecting their bail extension prayers.

Sunday morning, the accused surrendered before the courts and filed separate petitions for extending their bail.

Earlier, the leaders got bail from the High Court for four weeks, which expired on submission of the police reports in the case on March 27.
