Execute the verdict, demands Biswajit family

Family members of slain tailor Biswajit Das on Wednesday demanded immediate execution of his murder case verdict and tracking down the perpetrators remained fugitive since the horrendous incident.

“A court convicted the killers of my son. If the verdict is implemented, Biswajit’s soul will get solace. We’ll also get relaxed. We ask the authorities concerned to hunt down the fugitive convicted criminals,” Kalpana Rani Das, mother of Biswajit Das, told UNB with tears rolling down her cheeks.

The speedy trial tribunal in Dhaka on Wednesday condemned eight activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) to death and 13 others to life term imprisonment in the Biswajit killing case.

All the convicts were activists of Jagannath University unit BCL, the student wing of the ruling Awami League.

Voicing satisfaction over the verdict, Alanta Das, father of Biswajit, said, “We want to see that no convicted killers are released on bail from the higher court as they brutally killed my innocent son in public.”

On December 9 last year, Biswajit was killed near Bahadur Shah Park in the city during a countrywide shutdown enforced by the opposition.
