Ex-N’ganj DC, SP get grilled

‘Investigation at final stage’

The ex-Deputy Commissioner (DC) and ex-Superintendent of Police of Narayanganj were interrogated on Sunday by the probe committee formed by the Public Administration Ministry as the investigation into the gruesome seven murders is nearing completion.

 

The seven-member probe body interrogated Syed Nurul Islam from 10:10 am to 1:20 pm at the ministry.

 

Later, the committee also quizzed ex- Deputy Commissioner (DC) Manoj Kanti Boral at the ministry. They interrogated Manoj Kanti Boral for 105 minutes from 2:45pm.

 

While talking to reporters after quizzing Syed Nurul Islam, Deputy Secretary of the Law Ministry Mizanur Rahman Khan, also a member of the probe committee, said the investigation into the gruesome murders of seven people in Narayanganj is nearing completion.

 

Asked about the progress of the investigation, he said,” Nothing could be disclosed now for t he sake of investigation.”

 

He said the progress report over the investigation will be submitted to the High Court on June 5.

 

Meanwhile, Shahjahan Ali Mollah, the chief of the probe committee, said many people have already been interrogated and more will be, if needed, in connection the seven-murder case.

 

He said this while talking to reporters after quizzing Manoj Kanti Boral.

 

Asked whether the ex-DC was interrogated about action against Nur Hossain, the prime accused in the seven-murder case, Shahjahan said, “We also interrogated him about it.”

 

About grilling Narayanganj Awami League MP Shamim Osman over his phone conversation with Nur Hossain, Shahjahan Ali said, “We would look into the matter. Wait and we’ll look into it in the course of time.”

 

On May 5, the High Court issued a suo moto rule asking the government to form a seven-member committee to investigate the killings of Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam and six others.

 

The Public Administration Ministry on May 7 formed the seven-member probe panel in compliance with the High Court order.

 

On April 27, Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam and his three associates and driver were abducted from Fatullah area in Narayanganj city. Hours into their abduction, senior lawyer of the Narayanganj District Judge’s Court, Chandan Kumar Sarker, and his driver were abducted while they were going to capital Dhaka.

 

Three days into their abduction, the bodies of six people, including that of Nazrul and Chandan, were recovered from the Shitalakhya and Dhaleshwari rivers on April 30. Besides, the body of Jahangir, the car driver of Nazrul Islam, was recovered from the Shitalakhya River on May 1.
