Joy and celebrations sweep across the country as Muslims mark Eid-ul-Azha, one of the most auspicious festivals in the Islamic calendar, with social visits, outings, dining and other leisure pursuits.
The festivities began on Wednesday morning after special prayers.
After the prayers, well-off Muslims sacrificed animals commemorating Hazrat Ibrahim’s devotion to Allah as illustrated by his readiness to give up his beloved son Hazrat Ismail.
The country’s largest Eid congregation was held at Sholakia Eidgah in Kishoreganj district. Lakhs of Muslims offered prayers there seeking divine blessings, peace and progress for the country.
In the capital, the main Eid congregation was held at the National Eidgah near the High Court at 8:30am. Pesh Imam of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque Mufti Muhibbullahil Baki Nadvi led the prayer.
President Abdul Hamid offered the Eid prayers at the National Eidgah.
Meanwhile, some 60 lakh people left Dhaka city for their respective village homes to celebrate the Eid with their near and dear ones, leaving the city in a holiday mood.
Special diet will be served in hospitals, jails, government child families, Chotomoni Nibash, centres for persons with disabilities, shelter homes, orphanages, Vagrant Welfare and Destitute Welfare centres.
A wide variety of activities and events have been planned for the three=day Eid break with families, friends and visitors.
Many families are flocking to public parks, beaches and tourist spots across the country, while others are busy receiving guests or accepting Eid invitations at home.
