Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh (BDB) President AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury on Sunday said it is now clear that the next national election will lopsided one as the Election Commission has already been politicised.
“The Election Commission has been politicised… it’s now clear with the recent remarks of the commission. Therefore, the next polls will be a one-sided one under this government,” he said.
The former President made the remark while addressing a pre-iftar discussion in the city.
B Chowdhury said the Prime Minister wants to hold the next national election under her own party government so that she and her Cabinet colleagues can enjoy the full government support during the election.
“To make that happen, the government is trying its best to politicise the administration, and the EC has already been politicised,” the BDB president said.
He said Sajib Wazed Joy has probably declared the Awami League victory in the next polls considering the government plan.
B Chowdhury also said if the government does not exercise restraint, unelected government might step in the coming days. “If that happens, democracy will be buried.”
He called upon the government to declare that the next election will be held under a caretaker government, or else, the Prime Minister will have to shoulder the responsibility if democracy faces any unwarranted obstruction.
BDB central leaders also spoke at the programme held with its Kafrul thana unit president Nur Mohammad in the chair.
