The Election Commission has permitted the Finance Minister to visit Sylhet to cast his vote in Saturday’s city corporation polls.
Muhith had sought permission as there was an embargo on visits by ministers and state ministers in the election cities, EC Secretary Mohamamd Sadiq said on Friday.
“He (Muhith) has been given permission to go to Sylhet as he is a voter of the area,” he said.
Nagarik Committee candidate Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran, metropolitan unit chief of ruling Awami League, backed by the ruling coalition, is vying for the top post with ‘pineapple’ symbol.
Sammilita Nagarik Jote candidate Ariful Haque Chowdhury, also a member of BNP’s central committee, is taking part in the polls with ‘television’ symbol. The opposition alliance has backed him.
Salah Uddin Rimon is competing with ‘lock’ symbol.
The city has 291,046 voters.
