Don’t question govt’s legality: Nasim

Health Minister Mohammad Nasim on Tuesday said that there can be nothing to gain from terming the present government illegal.

“The people of the country cast their votes amid anarchy carried out by BNP-Jammat alliance with a view to thwarting the vote. But polls were held due to the firmness of Sheikh Hasina. No-one was able to resist the polls. The people of the country accepted the polls and the whole world termed it a legal one,” he said.

Nasim, also the presidium member of ruling Awami League, said this while addressing an extended meeting of Awami League city unit at its office at Bangabandhu Avenue in the city.

Advising the BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia to keep her head cool, the ruling party leader said “You have sunk your party by boycotting the polls and lost the position of opposition leader. Now keep your head cool and help the government by identifying its mistakes. If necessary we would correct ourselves.”

Addressing the meeting Food Minister Quamrul Islam said that there is no possibility to hold advanced polls in Bangladesh as the government has come for five years as per the constitution.

“BNP had no capacity to wage movement in the past, they don’t have it now and will not have it in future. Awami League is the only party which has the capacity to wage movement as well as to resist movement.”

Awami League joint general secretary Jahangir Kabir Nanak, city AL general secretary Mofazzel Hossain Chowdhury Maya, among others, addressed the occasion held with city unit acting president MA Aziz in the chair.
