Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni on Tuesday attended the Celebratory Mass of the new Pope in the Vatican City.
Vatican witnessed a huge congregation of Monarchs, Heir to the Monarchs. Heads of state, vice heads of state, prime ministers, ministers and high-profile dignitaries attended the celebrations.
This congregation provided an opportunity for the visiting Foreign Minister to interact with the visiting dignitaries from different countries, according to a message received here on Tuesday.
Dipu Moni will also hand over to the new Pope a massage of felicitation from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
After the celebration, the Foreign Minister is also expected to meet the expatriate Bangladeshis and exchange views with them. The Foreign Minister is visiting Italy as the head of a Bangladesh delegation to the Celebratory Mass of the new Pope.
Jorge Mario Bergoglio, an Argentine cardinal, Archbishop of Buenos Aires, was elected the new Pope on March 13 following the resignation of Benedict XVI with effect from February 28, 2013.
He was the first Pope to resign since Gregory XII in 1415, and the first to do so on his own initiative since Celestine V in 1294.
