Democracy defeated once again

democrace-defeated

Various organizations have been successful in distracting public opinion by circulating distorted messages with the covert help of the Awami League establishment. While appearing as a public forum, they are actually furthering the objectives of a one party system once again. It is no surprise to the public that Gonojagoron Mancha is an off shoot of the ruling coalition. Some of the members of the “civil society” are hard core Awami League or coalition government supporters. With the suppression of the opposition news media these groups are having a field day in propagating the label of “anti-liberation” to anyone or any group that see nationalism in a true sense.  That opposing the prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, and her party means taking a stand against the spirit of the war of independence.

It is quite legal and justified for the people of the country to oppose the incumbent government who have assumed power through January 5 farcical elections. The people have lost their confidence in the Awami League-led government as they (AL) are talking for materializing the spirit of liberation war and punishing the war criminals, but they are lingering the war crimes trial and not banning the Jamaat-e-Islami through a parliamentary action. It does not mean that the people uphold anti-liberation sentiment. People could better understand the intention of the ruling party to grip the power forever in order to loot the public money and property.

While the AL is propagating anti-liberation label to anyone opposing them, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and its allies are as guilty in carrying out subversive activities through setting vehicles afire in pretext of ‘restoring democracy and protecting country’s sovereignty.’ The ‘intellectuals’ are twice as guilty in supporting the AL government in abolishing election-time caretaker government system or a non-party election process through the 15th amendment to the constitution.

While the birth anniversary of Ziaur Rahman, a leading freedom fighter was celebrated by BNP, the AL and their coalition parties show total indifference as if this gentleman did not even fight in the liberation war. They would rather be happy with bestowing all credits to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who was interned in a Pakistani jail for the entire liberation war and had very little knowledge of what was going on. Such distortion and discrediting such a giant figure like Ziaur Rahman by these intellectuals and the AL does not bode well for the future of the country.

This government has destroyed the civil servants, judicial system, police and the armed forces by politicizing them. Today, you cannot get security or any justice if you do not carry the banner of the ruling party. She introduced favoritism within these organizations in order to divide and rule. She is ruling the nation through a Machiavellian system probably with the help of the foreign advisors.
