Defamation case filed against Inqilab editor, 4 others

A defamation case was filed with a Dhaka court on Sunday against the Daily Inqilab editor and four others for running a ‘false and baseless’ report in the vernacular daily.

 

Dilip Kumar Agarwal, managing director (MD) of Diamond World Ltd, lodged the case with the court of Metropolitan Magistrate M Mahbubur Rahman.

 

The accused are Inqilab editor and publisher AMM Bahauddin, its chairman, director (marketing) Abdul Quader, adviser M Alamgir Hossain and the reporter concerned.

 

As per the case statement, the daily ran three reports on the company from October 2 that were based on untrue and baseless information.

 

The reports published with an aim of tarnishing the image of the company caused commercial loss of Tk 50 crore and Tk 1 crore-defamation to the company, as per the case statement.

 

The complainant’s lawyer Joynul Abedin Mesbah said after recording the statement of the plaintiff, the court summoned the accused to appear before the court.
