Decision on unblocking access to Facebook, other comm apps soon

The minister for home affairs, Asaduzzman Khan, on Sunday said the government would take decision on unblocking access to social networking site Facebook and other communication apps.
He made the remark after having a meeting with two representatives of the social media giant.
Kamal said the meeting was ‘fruitful’ and the government apprised them of the problems it was facing regarding the social networking site.
He said they had discussed all the aspects elaborately in the meeting and government would soon come up with a decision on unblocking access to the site and apps.
The minister said the government had blocked access to the site and other apps only on security grounds.
Responding to a question about accessing facebook and other communication apps through proxy servers and virtual private network, the minister said, ‘The young genera ration is too talent and they make alternative ways.’
Three ministers and other senior officials held the meeting with Vikram Langeh, law enforcement specialist of Facebook in South Asia, and Deepali Liberhan, public policy manager for Facebook South Asia.
Alongside home minister, state minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak and state minister for posts and telecommunications Tarana Halim also attended the meeting.
Senior police officials including inspector general of police AKM Shahidul Hoque, RAB additional director general Ziaul Ahsan, special vranch additional IG Javed Patwary were also in the meeting.
The meeting follows the government’s blocking access to Facebook, its messenger app and some other communication apps on grounds of national security.
However, many have been using proxy servers to access Facebook and the other apps.
