A Chattogram court today granted police permission to interrogate former ISKCON leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari at the Chattogram Central Jail gate in two cases, including the murder case of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif.

The court of 6th Metropolitan Magistrate SM Alauddin passed the order after the investigating officer of the cases, Mahfuzur Rahman, assistant commissioner of Kotwali Zone of CMP, submitted a petition to interrogate Chinmoy, said Assistant Public Prosecutor Raihanul Wazed Chowdhury.

He said, “The IO of the two cases sought permission to question Chinmoy at the jail gate, and the court granted one-day permission for each of the cases — one filed for sedition and another over the murder of advocate Saiful.”

Chinmoy Krishna Das, also the spokesperson for Sammilita Sanatani Jagaran Jote, has so far been shown arrested in five cases, said court sources.

Saiful was killed on November 26 last year during a clash between police, lawyers, and Chinmoy’s followers near the Chattogram Court Building, after the court sent Chinmoy, who was arrested a day earlier near Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, to jail following a rejection of his bail plea in the sedition case filed on October 31.

The sedition case was filed by Firoz Khan, sacked general secretary of Chattogram’s Mohora ward BNP, accusing Chinmoy and 18 others.
