A couple has been killed ‘mysteriously’ in Chittagong city.
Relatives allege the couple was killed but police call it an accident.
The victims are Rajib Chowdhury, 40, a teacher at Firoz Shah City Corporation Girls’ High School and his wife Sanchita Shil, 35, assistant inspector of Upazila Food Department.
The couple had two daughters, nine-year-old Akshaya Chowdhury Arpa and three- year-old Adrita Chowdhury.
Sanchita fell on her husband from the roof of their newly built three-storey house in the east Firoz Shah area around 6am on Thursday, said Akbar Shah Police Station’s OC Abdul Majid.
According to him, the wife was plucking flowers on the roof and throwing them to the husband who was on the ground.
Akbar Shah Police Station’s SI Tafazzal Hossain, who visited the spot, said that Sanchita fell on her husband from the roof after the railing collapsed which left both of them dead on the spot.
Rajib’s brother Abhijit Chowdhury, however, said it was a murder.
He said they found injury marks on Rajib’s head and the tendons of his sister-in-law were slashed.
On the motive of killing, Abhijit said local goons might have killed his brother because they refused to pay extortion money.
Besides, Rajib might have had enemies as he was a popular teacher in his school.
“I can’t say the motive behind the killing for sure,” Abhijit said.
The bodies were sent to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital for autopsy.
