Costly shopping, risky home journey on Eid-ul-Fitr

Road are dilapidated at most places but the government blamed the opposition blockade and hartals for losing opportunity to improve the road and highway condition and repairs them. At Gazipur and Ashuluia buses were playing in big potholes submerged by water logging. But Eidgoers remained defiant to any risk.
Meanwhile, extortions and excess demand for fare is running sky rocketing. Estimates made by Bangladesh Passengers’ Welfare Association claimed passengers are going to pay an additional Tk 11,000 crore travel fare in roads, water ways and railways.
Of the additional fare, Tk 6,225 crore will be charged in road transport, Tk 4,000 crore in water transport and Tk 775 crore in railway sector during the rush from July 13 to 28.
The report was unveiled by the secretary of the association Mozammel Haque Chowdhury at the Jatiya Press Club on Tuesday.
The report was prepared on the basis of media reports and information collected by the association’s 11 teams that visited different spots across the country arrived at the conclusion based on fact from the spots.
