Consolidation of power in one hand to cause state anarchy: BNP

It voices determination to make its ‘justified movement’ a success

BNP joint secretary general Salauddin Ahmed on Sunday said a state anarchy has become imminent as the three organs of the country — legislature, executive and judiciary — have gone to the hands of a person.

“The nation is going through a critical juncture. The state’s legislature, executive and judiciary have remained seized in the hands of a single person, making a state anarchy inevitable,” he said in a statement.

Salauddin Ahmed, who has been made the BNP spokesman after the arrest of party office secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, issued the statement through an email about the second day of the 72-hour blockade programme.

Like the previous day, the new BNP spokesperson did not turn up at the party headquarters apparently in fear of arrest as he is also an accused in Thursday’s Shahbagh bus torching case that left two youths dead and 15 others injured.

In the statement, Salauddin alleged that the Prime Minister is showing aggressive and boastful attitude staying in power.

Accusing the government of declaring a war against people, he said Awami League’s old brutal character is carrying out killing, mass arrest, attack, filing cases and repression.

He alleged that the Prime Minister has turned ferocious and is suppressing the opposition as she wants to establish an authoritarian rule.

Mentioning that the government fears the freedom of speech and expression, the BNP leader said the country is not safe in its hands.

He also voiced the strong determination that they will make their ‘justified movement’ a success by facing the government’s brutal repressive acts.

In the statement, Salauddin claimed that a Jubo Dal leader was killed at Patiya in Chittagong by the ruling party ‘cadres’ while over 400 opposition activists injured in attacks by law enforcers and the AL men at different places in the country during the 2nd day of the 18-prty sponsored 72-hour rail-road-waterway blockade.

Over 300 opposition activists were arrested across the country during the blockade hours, while more than 350 injured in attacks by law enforcers and ‘ruling party cadres, he said.

Besides, around 250 opposition leaders and activists were arrested and over 2,000 others implicated in fresh ‘false’ cases across the country during the period, he further claimed.

On behalf of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, Salauddin greeted the country’s people for their spontaneous participation in the blockade programme.

He also demanded the government release the all arrested BNP leaders and withdraw the cases filed against them.
